A small apartment can provide a cozy living space and can save you money at the same time. However, trying to design rooms and decorate the spaces in an apartment that is rather small can be challenging. You may lack the space to do what you want, and trying to add too much can leave a space feeling cramped and cluttered.
However, there are some great design and decor ideas that can not only make your small space look great, but also help it feel bigger and hold more of your stuff without being a mess. With that in mind, this article is going to go over some awesome room design and decor ideas for small apartments.
Utilize Mirrors Intelligently
Having mirrors in a space is a great way to make a smaller space appear larger. They reflect light and can help a room look brighter, bigger, and much more open. It is a trick, but it can have some very real results. However, you don’t simply want to have a ton of different mirrors thrown up on walls all over your apartment.
There are many ways to use mirrors to help your space look larger that can also look good as decor. You want to have the mirrors at the right height, ensure you use a frame that fits well in the space, and use different sized (and shaped) mirrors. Pairing them with a light source is a good idea, and finding a desk or cabinet with a mirror attached to it is also something to consider for additional storage or work space.
Use Multi-Purpose Furniture
Furniture that has more than one purpose is another good idea to design a smaller apartment in a way that both looks good and is functional. Many rooms or spaces in a small apartment simply don’t have the square footage to both include nice furniture and dedicated storage solutions. If you can mix the two, it can save you a ton of space.
There are several examples of multi-purpose furniture that you can use. It could be a bed with storage built-in, an ottoman, a storage bench, a bookcase with a table in it, a floating desk, or any number of other things.
Take Advantage of Unused Vertical Space
A part of many homes and apartments that often goes unused are the walls, Sure, you may have some pieces of art on your walls, but they have far more potential than that, especially in a smaller space.
If you don't have enough square footage to store everything you need or things are too cramped, why not use vertical space? You can add shelves or hooks to walls to store things, or bring in a tall bookshelf to increase the storage. This can look good, and help a space feel more tidy and less cluttered.
Of course, always know your landlord's rules about putting things on the walls. There are solutions that do little to no permanent damage to the walls, but it is best to ask anyways to ensure you are allowed to use the walls in this way.
Any or all of these ideas are great for designing and decorating your small apartments to ensure they look amazing.
