Cleaning the house is one task most people wish they could avoid. On the other hand, we all love the look and feel of a freshly cleaned house. There are several benefits of a well-kept house which make the cleaning process worth the effort. Keeping your house clean and hygienic is especially important if you have young children, since they tend to touch anything and even put in the mouth.
Here are some tips to help you:
1. Use a Door Mat
Most of the dirt on the floor of your house is carried by the shoes. Doormats come in handy in wiping and scrapping the dirt off the soles. Very dirty or muddy shoes should be left outside altogether. The doormat should be large enough so that it is longer than a normal stride. This ensures that both feet will pass through the mat on your way in, and most of the dirt can be trapped. Go for an acrylic mat with a rubber or vinyl backing. With these materials, you can easily shake off the dirt.
2. Keep Doors closed
A lot of dust and dirt particles are blown into the house during the day. You will hardly notice it, but soon enough there will be layers of dust on every other surface, including the floor. Minimize the periods when doors remain open, and you'll notice a significant difference. Use window blinds to trap dust and other particles blown in through the windows. The blinds should be cleaned regularly. This tip is especially important if a family member suffers from dust or pollen related allergies.
3. Be conscious with pets
If not supervised closely, pets can bring a lot of dirt into the house making it unhygienic for your family. Place a rug by the door so that pets can wipe their paws after playing in the yard or garden. Since most of the pets want to jump right into the house, keep the door closed so that you can check on them when they want to come in. Brush your pet's fur outdoors once every week. The loose fur will be eliminated reducing the chances of spreading it around the house. The few strands that make their way onto the furniture can be wiped off with a damp cloth. Use a vacuum cleaner to pull hair out of rugs and carpets.
4. Invest in Filters
Quality air filters ensure that the air circulating in your house is free from dust and other impurities. In the wet season, your house will not have excess moisture. Filters should be inspected regularly and replaced after the recommended time. Once you have pure air circulating in your house, do not allow smoking or any other activity that will release toxins into the atmosphere.
These are just some of the most essential tips for cleaning your house and keeping your family healthy. Avoid procrastination; the earlier you do it the better. Remember it is not just about looking great, a clean house also ensures a germ-free environment and good health for the entire family.
