We all want a living room that looks quality – like something out of a mag. But people don't have a lot of money to spend.
The real news? You don’t want a lot of coins to make your room look steeply priced. You just want some clever hints.
Here’s how to make your living space look rich and cozy without spending loads.
1. Paint the Smart Way.
Paint is reasonably priced; however, it is able to make a huge difference.
Use a shade anywhere: Paint the walls, edges, and even the ceiling to provide even shade. Bright white or plain gray works nicely. This makes the room look bigger and cleaner.
Try a dark color: Dark blue, dark green, or charcoal gray makes a room feel classy. The dark colors also hide small marks or bumps on the partition.
Money-saving tip: Go to a hardware store and look for the “oops” paint. These are colors someone put together by mistake. You can get a massive can for a lesser price.
2. Hang curtains the right way
Short curtains and reasonably priced blinds make a room look poor. You want long curtains.
Instead, do this:
Hang the rod high — close to the ceiling, not right above the window.
Make the rod wider than the window.
That's it. This one change will make any room look twice as nice. You can find great long curtains at HOG Furniture under their Curtains & Curtains section.
3. Think big, not small
Lots of little things look messy. Big things look fancy.
One huge picture: No longer keep ten small pictures on the wall. Hang up a very large picture. You’ll need to purchase a virtual artwork document online for
Big Books: Go to a thrift store and buy two or 3 huge books about style, hiking, or nature. Stack them for the coffee table. It looks cool, but it costs a fortune.
4. Replace the lights
Most people use the giant light in the ceiling. That light is harsh and unsightly. Rich people don't use it.
Turn off the ceiling light. Use small lamps instead.
A few or three lamps, which take a seat at eye level or on tables.
Buy tender yellow mild light. Yellow light makes skin look better, and rooms feel warm.
Cheap find: Look for antique lamps at Goodwill or warehouse finds. Spray paint them gold or black. If you want something new, HOG Furniture has nice floor lamps like the Crossed Nordic Floor Lamp or the Modern Minimalist Floor Lamp with a fabric shade that gives a warm glow.
5. Add plants (real or fake)
Plants make a room feel alive and sparkling.
Real Plant: A large foliage plant, like a Monstera or Pothos, is cheap to shop for and easy to keep alive.
Good fake plant life: If you can’t keep real plant life alive, buy fine fake stems like eucalyptus. Place them in a heavy jar or vase.
Tip: Stop using a small plastic pot. Place the plant in a solid basket or ceramic pot. A solid tub looks much more luxurious.
Budget option at HOG: They sell a smaller Dried Tree for ₦18,000, which is available in white, espresso, or untested and already includes a pot.
6. Hide Clutter
You can’t look fancy when you have trash everywhere. Clutter mode remote controls, mail, phone chargers, and vintage espresso cups.
Buy matching baskets with lids. Throw blankets, toys, and corded decor.
Use a tray on the espresso table. Place remotes and trays next to the tray. Even if the tray is messy, it still looks like you intentionally made it.
7. Use Soft Things
Fancy rooms experience smooth and cozy. You can try this for cheap.
A blanket: Don’t cleverly fold it anymore. Drape it loosely over the top of the sofa.
A rug under your feet: A large rug pulls the whole room together. Explore rugs and rugs at HOG Furniture for options that shape your space.
Try this right now (takes an hour)
Do this nowadays:
Turn off the oversized ceiling light. Turn on two desk lamps.
Attach the pillows to make them look tender and full.
Store all cords at the back of your TV stand or inside a basket.
Clear off the espresso table. Place the lower back simply a tray, a candle, and an e-book.
Open the curtains all the way.
The Simple Truth
You don’t need a lot of money to look rich. You just have to be smart.
Paint the partitions. Hang curtains too much. Turn off the huge light. Hide the mess. Add a plant and some soft pillows.
That's it. You can make your living room look like a million dollars for under a hundred dollars.
Now try it. You’ll be surprised how good it feels.
