You’ve just bought your first home, which is a huge milestone in your life, but in order to make your new house a home, you need to curate a home style that reflects and resonates with your personal style and your overall vision for your life in the next 5, 10 or lifetime.
When it comes to buying furniture for your future home, there are several ways you can do this and we are here to talk about it today. Continue reading to find out more how you can buy the perfect furniture for your new home that will make your visitors wonderfully astonished.
Auctions
Auctions are a great way to get unique, one-of-a-kind statement pieces, but also at a fraction of the price that you might expect to get from modern resellers. Auctions are a very underutilised and unsung method of buying decor for the modern generations. It’s an older crowd that you find here, which could work with and against you. With age comes wisdom (potentially), which means an item that you’ve spotted and want might also have a heritage that you may not be aware of, but an old-timer does.
This means you should bid carefully on items and don’t overspend on items where you are not interested in the history. Come with a budget and don’t overstep it, as you need a lot of items to buy, and overdecorating your home isn’t a race. Just need the basics, and then you can switch and decorate as time and visits to auctions continue.
Online Resellers
While this is a much more expensive option, resellers are doing this for a career; therefore, they will be spending a lot of time and effort on restorations but also on styling, photography and social media efforts. These factors, including the uniqueness of the products, drive the price up, but that also means these pieces are high quality and have been freshly restored, which is a step you may need to take if you are buying from auctions.
Depending on your budget or the items you are looking for, you could find a bargain or a piece that will stay with you forever. Sometimes spending a large sum of money on luxury furniture is worth it, as to an extent it will retain a lot of its value, especially when taken care of.
Don’t be afraid to haggle the price as well; sometimes they may budge if they’ve had the item for a long time or minimal interest from others, plus it’s always worth asking.
Car Boot Sales
If you are happy to potentially restore items, whether it’s stripping paint and re-dyeing/glazing, then you could keep a keen eye out during car boot sales. People choose car boots to get rid of a lot of stuff for cheaper, and sometimes people let go of some treasure pieces that have the potential to be an amazing find. They are usually a summertime thing, so it’s very selective and you can make the most of these periods to buy pieces of furniture and artwork and maybe pick up a few other little extra bits for pounds and pennies.
Popular Retailers
Retailers have a huge range of furniture for reasonable prices that is completely brand new. I understand that new homeowners want to start from scratch and curate more modern pieces of furniture, which makes their home look clean, polished and contemporary. With deals constantly available from popular retailers like ourselves, you can ensure that you will grab a piece of furniture that is brand new for an absolute bargain without needing to restore anything.
Facebook Marketplace
The best and worst platform ever, as it’s so hit and miss with grabbing items. I have got some of the best furniture from there that I’ve used forever. However, getting the items is another story. It’s a lot of messing around with messages to the seller and making sure it’s not already been sold, all the while finding a time or day you can actually go and pick it up.
All of that awkward back and forth is always worth it, it’s a great way to grab some pieces that are extremely cheap and sometimes even free. It’s also worth considering that they will likely need a lot of love, restoration and cleaning, and it can be sometimes extremely awkward picking up items if you don’t have a big enough space, but if you know a man with a van, you are sweet with that part.
Shopping Centres
You will be surprised at some smaller and unexpected retailers and their home/furniture selection. Whether it’s Next, Zara or a home store, they have so much to offer, from tiny furniture pieces to general home decor to bring character. I genuinely wouldn’t forget about your shopping centres in Leeds for some good quality pieces.
Final Thoughts
Buying furniture is something that can be fun, time-consuming and overall expensive, but there are ways to save money. However, it’s worth spending the extra for a piece of furniture that you love and will follow you the rest of your life and whichever home you remain and move to.
